Chris Hornberger is an experienced management consultant and project manager. She has also held a variety of senior level positions in the public and private sectors in Canada and the United States both in line management and information technology roles.  Chris has been actively involved with community-based organizations both professionally and in a volunteer capacity, including her extensive involvement on boards and committees of not-for-profit and charitable organizations.

Her extensive management consulting experience includes working with client organizations facilitating strategic and operational planning; introducing change into organizations in transition and working with clients to create organizations that support their strategic goals.  As an accomplished project manager, her experience includes leading teams in business strategy development; change management; software integration; and business redesign projects.

Chris is highly skilled at working closely with her clients to develop workable, creative solutions to achieve their strategic objectives. Her interactive and personable approach facilitates timely and efficient communication and effective trouble-shooting.  Her energetic leadership style motivates teams to deliver innovative and practical solutions.

Experience/Selected Projects

Economic Development

  • Lead the Halifax Region Immigration Strategy, which developed a community based approach to attracting, integrating and retaining immigrants; and developed a governance model for coordinating various immigration related projects and initiatives.
  • Lead the stakeholder consultation process to develop a strategic plan for Innovation Fredericton to harness the Region's potential for accelerated growth driven by knowledge-based innovation and entrepreneurship.

Non-Governmental Organizations

  • Managed the Diversity Planning for Inclusive Employment research study to gather information from employers across Canada about their awareness of the disability agenda and their obligations under the governing Employment Equity Act and Human Rights Code.
  • Managed an asset mapping project which culminated in the development of a database that defines the life sciences inventory of resources in Nova Scotia to support further development of the sector in the Province.

Education Sector

  • Planned, managed and coordinated the efforts of three consulting teams in developing business and facilities plans and a communications tool for a planned new research centre at Acadia University. 
  • Lead the multi-stakeholder consultation process and provided project leadership for the development of a business plan and financial model for NSCAD University’s planned Innovation Centre.  

Public Sector

  • Assisted the management team of an addiction prevention and treatment organization with restructuring its delivery of services and programs to meet increasing demands for new services.
  • Worked with the executive and management teams of a Nova Scotia Crown Corporation in developing their business plans for two consecutive years.

Private Sector

  • Through a series of one-on-one meetings, assisted the CEO of a life sciences company with redesigning the organizational structure of the company to support future growth objectives.
  • Facilitated a strategic planning process in the industrial products distribution and supply chain management sector resulting in a new vision statement and growth plans for a three year period.

  • As Vice President Operations of TecKnowledge Healthcare Systems, Chris had overall accountability for delivery of telehealth solutions, management of consulting, implementation and technical support operations.
  • In the capacity of General Manager, Western Region Service Teams, Customer Service Group at HealthAmerica Pennsylvania, Inc., in Pittsburgh, PA, Chris was accountable for providing claims processing and customer services to the 200,000+ health plan members in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio.
  • At the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board in Toronto, ON, Chris held a variety of positions including: Acting Vice President, Information Services Division; Director, End User Computing; Director, Hamilton Region; and Director, Construction Industry Services Unit.
