May 2006
Sixteen weeks of training paid off for Chris Hornberger and Ruth Blades as they crossed the finish line at the Blue Nose International Half-Marathon in Halifax on May 21, 2006, with a time of three hours, seven minutes. The 21.1 km route took them around Citadel Hill in dowtown Halifax, across the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge to Dartmouth, through Shubie Park in Dartmouth and back to Halifax, finishing in front of the Old Town Clock.
Training for the marathon began at the end of January and involved walks of many distances, durations, configurations and conditions. Having walked in snow, rain, freezing temperatures and brilliant sunshine, Chris and Ruth were pleased with the cloudy but warm conditions on race day.
Congratulations also go out to all participants in the Blue Nose International Marathon, especially to their fellow walkers from the Running Room.
Watch for Chris and Ruth in future races, as they now have the walking bug!
