Canadian Science Policy Conference 2011

Under the motto of "Building Bridges for the Future of Science Policy", CSPC 2011 is taking place in Ottawa, Convention Centre, Nov. 16-18. CSPC 2011 will provide a unique opportunity for science, technology and innovation policy stakeholders to get together at the national level to network and discuss the present and future of science and innovation policy in Canada. CSPC 2011 features an exciting array of special events, including:

A special keynote address from Canada's Minister of State for Science and Technology, the Honorable Gary Goodyear

The Hall of Fame Science and Engineering Awards Ceremony, recognizing three of the most distinguished Canadian scientists

Evening entertainment DUST - a high-definition audiovisual experience that explores the changing state of matter

Two keynote sessions:

  • “Big picture analysis of science and innovation policy”, with featured speakers:

    • Ian Chubb, Chief Scientist of Australia,
    • Rémi Quirion, Quebec's newly appointed Chief Scientist, and
    • Peter MacKinnon, President of University of Saskatchewan.
  • “Science and Politics in Canada" - features scientists who have pursued political careers and are now serving as Members of Parliament on the interactions of scientific and political communities and how to encourage scientists to actively participate in politics. 

Two plenary sessions:

  • Building Stronger Communities Through Innovation
  • Drivers of Innovation in the Chemical-Related Industry Sector

In total 17 panel sessions and one workshop, with over 70 invited speakers from across Canadian private sector, government, academic, and non-profit communities will feature at this year’s conference. As a new initiative this year, a majority of CSPC2011 sessions were proposed, developed, and organized by members of the broader Canadian S&T policy community.
