Peter Milley presented at The Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development “Synergy Session” on September 21, 2009.
What are the various biomass processing technologies to which idled forestry processing facilities can potentially be converted? What are the key conversion challenges to developing a viable ‘green’ biomass/bioenergy business on the foundation of an industrial platform that dates from the early decades of the last century? What public policy changes and other new initiatives are necessary to foster combinations of processing technologies and products which can serve as the foundation for a viable forest sector of the future?
The presentation addressed these and other questions as the forest industry of Newfoundland and Labrador struggles to re-invent itself in the light of major global changes.
