Stephen Thomas Ltd (ST), Toronto, is Canada’s largest direct marketing agency focusing solely on not-for-profit clients. Halifax Global Inc. has been providing Executive Advisory Services to ST since 2007.
Working with the senior management team, we have provided a wide range of planning, growth, financial, human resources and client related services. As a trusted advisor to the CEO, we regularly act as strategic counsel on a variety of matters and have contributed to the prosperity that ST has enjoyed over the years.
The Nova Scotia Career Development Association
The Nova Scotia Career Development Association (NSCDA) is a not-for-profit professional organization with approximately 600 members from across Nova Scotia. The NSCDA has been growing rapidly and in 2016 Halifax Global Inc. was selected to work with them to create a new Strategic Plan. The new Plan was adopted in 2017 and one of the strategies was to move from a Working Board to a Governance Board. Halifax Global Inc. was chosen to work with them on this vital initiative.
Collaborating closely with the client, the first step was to determine the Rules of Governance followed by the creation of associated policies and bylaws, consistent with the major changes taking place. The transition was successfully completed in 2018. Halifax Global Inc. continues to work with NSCDA on other planning activities.
Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home was facing imminent discontinuation of its operations. The Board and management embarked on a strategic planning process to repurpose their well-equipped facility to address the unmet needs of underserved groups within the Miramichi community.
Halifax Global Inc. was engaged to undertake a community consultation and engagement process that successfully identified various services that could be delivered from the repurposed facility. Defining services consistent with the principles and philosophies of the founding religious order that had been serving the community for more than 70 years was key to the project’s success; as was development of a strategic business plan that charted a course to implementation and continuing financial sustainability.
Since the turn of the millennium, we have experienced significant regional changes in Canada’s forest products sector. The emergence of such fundamental change drivers as new and mostly free online advertising technologies and applications, growth of e-commerce, and shifting characteristics of demand for new residential construction, particularly in the United States have resulted in mill closures, employment reductions and harvest declines.
Halifax Global Inc. has worked with governments and five communities across multiple Canadian provinces to explore potential industrial restructuring and facility repurposing opportunities to mitigate the economic impacts of a changing forest sector. Through extensive community and stakeholder consultations, feasibility assessment of new biorefining processes, and comprehensive strategic business planning we have helped these clients develop viable pathways to sustainable futures.

For more than 40 years, CCRW been has “paving the way to a fully inclusive nation” by connecting job seekers with disabilities and employers across the country. People with disabilities represent an untapped talent pool and in today’s competitive talent market, smart businesses are recognizing the advantages of creating a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace.
Over the past 15 years, Halifax Global Inc. has had the privilege of supporting CCRW in their work. We have been involved with a variety of projects including strategic, business and operational planning, workshop facilitation, research projects, and board and stakeholder engagement. As the cultural and community hub for Dartmouth, NS, Alderney Landing is playing a pivotal role in the revitalization of downtown Dartmouth. At the same time, there is a sense that it could be so much more than what it is today. To explore this potential, the Board engaged Halifax Global Inc. to undertake a strategic planning exercise in the fall of 2018.
Working in close collaboration with the Strategic Planning Committee of the board, extensive input was received from the community through an online survey and a community workshop, supplemented with additional input from key partners, members of the Board and staff. The outcome, including renewed mission and vision statements and a comprehensive plan to guide the organization over the next three to five years, was approved by the board in the spring of 2019.
